Good News for Cork Northside It has been confirmed by Cork City Council to me that this project now moves to next stage. The “ emerging preferred route, as presented during the public consultation process has now been confirmed as the preferred route for Cork Northern Distributor Multi-model Route”. A tender process for the appointment of a design team for environmental assessment, preliminary design and statutory processes is now underway. It has also been confirmed that the project is included in the National Development Plan (Transport Sectoral Investment Plan, Major Projects €200m-€500m). #corkcity #transport #planning #roadconstruction #roadconstructionwork

In October 2024, as Minister of State in the Dept of Health, I convened a meeting of the @roinnslainte , the Department of Housing, @irishhealthservice and @corkcitycouncil to examine a proposal for a homeless health hub, a day centre in Cork City where homeless people go during the day and also get medical care.

I welcome the latest step by the HSE to go to tender city-centre location for Cork’s first dedicated health hub for people experiencing homelessness. This new centre will offer vital support and services to some of the city’s most vulnerable individuals. This is a big move towards dignity, care and inclusivity in Cork.

Great news for healthcare in Cork.

I welcome the confirmation that Mercy University Hospital will take over the Blarney facility from January 2026, creating a new 50-bed rehabilitation and neurological care centre for the region.

30 beds will be allocated to MUH for rehabilitation, while 20 beds will be allocated to CUH for neuro surgical patients.

This will improve access to specialist rehab close to home and ease pressure on our acute hospitals.

A very positive step for patients, families and Cork’s health services. I look forward to working with @irishhealthservice and Cllr @damianb3201 to ensure that this is delivered at the earliest possible date.

2,869 first time buyers received mortgage approval in Oct which was 60.6% of total approvals (total approvals for the month was 4,783). 27,612 first time buyers have now received mortgage approval in the first 10 months of 2025. Every effort must be made to increase the number of houses and apartments being built in order to meet demand that exists

Great to visit the University Dental School and Hospital, Cork, I met with Professor Paul Brady, David O’Leary, staff, students and patients. It was wonderful to see the care being provided here 🦷 🪥

The Dental School needs additional funding to enable it increase the number of Irish students (currently 25 per annum) studying dentistry in UCC. Increase in Dental training places would result in more dentists available to work in Ireland. I will continue to lobby for this to occur.✅

Restrictions on the Dental School in the treatment of Medical Card patients requires to be reviewed. I will be working to having these restrictions removed. ✅
